S.P.L.U.R.T. Station is a hybrid server for erotic roleplay and mechanical gameplay, due to this, we have fairly diverse rules when it comes to behaving on our server, it may take some getting used to, but if you do not act malicious, your behavior should not come into question.

Do not treat these rules as a comprehensive list of everything that can get you in trouble, the rules are always bound to change. If you act in a way that impacts the server or interact in a malicious way then you can get punished depending on the context, even if it is not a written rule. Simply put, just because it is not explicitly mentioned, does not mean you cannot get in trouble.

Rules

This is the most important section, everything in this section takes priority over anything you do.

At minimum you need to understand these rules, if you are confused, please ask a staff member in #staff-questions.

0. Server safety

This is an 18+ server, it is meant for adults, we do not allow any content that could be interpreted as violating laws in most countries or activity that would promote harmful content on our server.

Activities or content that is banned in most countries such as the usage of underage characters or interactions with real life animals is not allowed here at all.

If you are found to be underage, you will be promptly removed from our community. If staff suspect that you may be underage, you will be age-vetted, failure to respond will result in an age-vet ban till you go through the process.

Examples and exceptions.

Examples:

1. Violating either Discords terms of service (ToS) or BYONDs ToS is prohibited.
2. Talking about or using any sort of underage content, in any way on the server is prohibited, check character ages before using their art as a headshot image.
3. Interacting with creatures from real life or animals that resemble real life creatures are not okay to interact within an ERP manner.
4. Using slurs through IC chat or L/OOC is not allowed here, especially if it is used as an insult towards another user.
5. Spreading hate speech towards any group or bigotry is not allowed here, we host a diverse range of people from all backgrounds, even if you dislike a group of people, keep it to yourself.

Exceptions:

1. Interacting with creatures that are of fantasy nature or animals that are different enough from real life animals are okay to ERP with. (Ian is off-limits, but ash drakes are allowed.)
2. Using slurs within a private area between consenting parties is allowed, so long as it makes sense, used for ERP purposes and if outside of a dorm, using anti-subtler ghost.

1. Malicious behavior

Interacting with another player with the intent to harm or ruin their experience on our server and make their overall experience here worse, this includes using non-direct methods to avoid detection.

This is a server for adults, we expect you to behave as such, be open to reasoning and talking out your issues with other players and staff.

Examples and exceptions.

Examples:

1. Harassing someone over their character, kinks, grammar or preferred roleplaying style, is not accepted here.
2. Meta-grudging someone for their past actions against you, by either killing them, griefing them or being problematic with them in L/OOC.
3. Revealing someone's CKey, Discord account or list of characters they play for the purpose of other players to retaliate towards them.
4. Lying to staff about what another player did with malicious intent, in order to get them in trouble.
5. Preventing a player from engaging with the round without a valid reason.
6. Abusing bugs, quirks or exploits in a disruptive manner to get the upper-hand against another player.
7. Type-baiting people is strictly prohibited, this is when you bring someone into a conversation and as they go to reply, you take hostile action against them.
8. Using size changing quirks or gear to make your character smaller for mechanical advantage against a player.
8.1. Characters naturally smaller than half a tile cannot play as a role expected to end up in combat, this includes command, security and antagonist roles.

2. Impactful behaviour

Activities that impact the server or player base in a negative way, you are allowed to roleplay within reason, but if your actions start to impact the server or its players in a negative way instead of improving it, then you may be violating this rule.

Most cases can be solved through IC actions or through the use of L/OOC with the offending player if they are ruining your experience, if communicating fails, contact staff. On this server you are allowed to roleplay in a vast range and most things are allowed so long as they do not prove to be a detriment, avoid ruining the experience for everyone else.

Examples and exceptions.

Examples:

1. Griefing the station without a valid reason.
1.1. End of round grief (EORG) outside of the permitted area or too early.
2. Creating server lag through the use of spawning mass mobs, items, liquid or gas.
3. Bringing IC information into OOC chat, it is not fair to other players and can ruin peoples time.

(Pending overhaul by staff)

Above all else, S.P.L.U.R.T. Station is an EROTIC ROLEPLAY server and, as such, you are expected to act in a way that not only makes sense for your character, but also in a way that does not disrupt the roleplay of others in the process. The roleplay quality we aim for at S.P.L.U.R.T. is medium roleplay, therefore we expect you to be up to that standard in our server. Your characters and the way you play them should at all times reflect a quality of roleplay good enough for this server. You should avoid disrupting peoples’ experience and immersion through your decisions.

Play as a coherent, believable character. You're on a space station as  a hire. There's fluffy characters from all corners of the universe and beyond, some of which are twice as tall as you and walk around with nothing hiding their bits, people are eating deep fried clothes and sometimes there's a dozen Captains. Your character should fit within this game world.

1 - Escalation

All fighting and use of mechanics should be proportional to the conflict itself, and make sense for your character and the situation they encounter. Not unlike how conflict would normally happen in the real world. Conflict and use of mechanics are natural and normal within a roleplay environment in SS13. However, you shouldn’t go overboard when fighting someone else, the admins will gauge for every situation if the use of mechanics was pertinent or not.

In general, try and escalate only when, and as necessary for the situation at hand.

2 - Fuck around and find out

You are not exempt from the consequences of your actions on the server. Just like you would in real life, your decisions and actions ICly on the server can and will be met by ICly consequences from the rest of the players.

Reactions from the playerbase to your character and your in-game actions can range from the use of escalation, to retaliation over several rounds. If admins deem that a situation your character is going through is due to the previous actions you performed as said character, they will let nature run its course. Consider this when deciding your actions in-game and the type of character you want to play as!

# Name Description Examples Notes
1.
Malice
Under no circumstances should you maliciously attempt to harm or hinder another player's experience on S.P.L.U.R.T. Station; accidents certainly happen, however, if you are doing something simply for the sake of putting down another player, you are likely violating this rule.
  • Do not harass or kinkshame other players in the server
  • Do not metagrudge other players in the server
  • Malicious dishonesty won’t be tolerated.
  • Do not intentionally prevent other players from participating in the round with no good reason.
  • Do not abuse exploits in a disruptive manner.
  • In the case you do not enjoy a particular kink, character, character type, species, etcetera, you do not have to interact with it/them, however, you are not to voice your distaste publicly, whether that be in OOC, or in LOOC when in a public area with unrelated bystanders nearby. Examples of disrespect are; insulting, mocking, harassing, provoking, etcetera, the player in question via OOC, LOOC, etcetera, is not allowed.
  • Do not type-bait people, this means putting them into a situation that encourages them to respond with text and whilst they are typing you perform hostile actions towards them.
  • This is an adult server, therefore we expect you to behave as one and be able to reason and talk your issues with other players and staff.
2.
Impact
Activities that considerably impact the server or its players in a negative way violate this rule; You are allowed to roleplay freely within certain boundaries, the moment your actions start impacting the server negatively and worsening the experience of our players rather than improving it, your actions start breaking this rule.
  • Do not grief places of the server
  • End-of-round grief before the shuttle lands in any location that isn’t Central Command won’t be tolerated (this includes the shuttle itself).
  • As an antag or ghost role, stick to your objectives and avoid deviating from them, causing unnecessary collateral damage (More info about this in our Antag Standards).
  • Offer help to those new and/or learning. Avoid being a detriment to your whole department by not at least offering to help those struggling.
  • For some cases, it is possible to solve an issue either ICly or OOCly with the person at hand. In case someone’s being a detriment for your experience in this server, first try and communicate with them or solve the issue through IC methods, before contacting admins. Only contact admins if diplomacy fails with whoever’s inconveniencing you.
  • On this station, you’re allowed a vast range of ways to roleplay and interact with the rest of the station, most things are allowed as long as they don’t prove a detriment for the ambience of the server or its players. Please just avoid ruining the experience for everyone else.
3.
Roleplay

  • Avoid using netspeak in your roleplay on the server except in contexts where it makes sense (PDA messages, etc.)
  • Avoid playing as characters that disrupt the rest of the players’ experience and immersion on the server. (E.g. You’re not allowed to play as Abraham Lincoln, 16th president of the United States of America, but you’re allowed to play as Toriel from Undertale.)
  • You are NEVER allowed to use OUT OF CHARACTER information IN CHARACTER. What you see in Discord, OOC channel or LOOC is never something your in-game character will use. If you are caught Metagaming, it is an actionable offense.
  • Avoid dumping IC information in OOC chat, Ick Ock will not be tolerated.
  • This also includes not disrupting/harming roleplay through your OOC behavior, for example with OOC and LOOC messages, or tickets, which you should also keep separate of your IC behavior
  • Avoid respawning as the same character in the same round without admin permission.
  • English is the main language of the server, use it.
  • If your justification for questionable actions within the game is “That’s just how my character works” or any similar reasonings, admins may look at your character overall, and if it’s deemed that its personality doesn’t contribute to the roleplay environment of the station, this justification would not stand and you’ll be asked to not play said character in the way you have.
3.1. Rules about Escalation:
  • All fighting and use of mechanics should be proportional to the conflict itself, and make sense for your character and the situation they encounter. Not unlike how conflict would normally happen in the real world. Conflict and use of mechanics are natural and normal within a roleplay environment in SS13. However, you shouldn’t go overboard when fighting someone else, the admins will gauge for every situation if the use of mechanics was pertinent or not.
  • In general, try and escalate only when, and as necessary for the situation at hand.
  • Don’t round remove someone just because they called you a bad word
  • Don’t kill someone just because they didn’t give you access to a part of the station
  • Ideally, the flow of escalation for any conflictive interaction should be Verbal aggression > Nonlethals > lethals. This of course doesn’t apply for every situation, but should work as a guide.
  • Having the Round Removal pref on means you waive your protections by the Escalation rules. Anyone can at any point engage, kill and Round remove your character. Having it off doesn’t mean you can’t be killed or round removed, just that escalation rules apply to your case.
3.2. Fuck around, find out:
  • You are not exempt from the consequences of your actions on the server. Just like you would in real life, your decisions and actions ICly on the server can and will be met by ICly consequences from the rest of the players.
  • Reactions from the playerbase to your character and your in-game actions can range from the use of escalation, to retaliation over several rounds. If admins deem that a situation your character is going through is due to the previous actions you performed as said character, they will let nature run its course.
  • Consider this when deciding your actions in-game and the type of character you want to play as!
  • If you consistently cause issues as a non-antag for crew, you might find yourself being round removed by other players.
  • If you play as an asshole character, don’t be surprised if the rest of the crew decides to retaliate. For example by engaging in conflict.
  • We try and treat issues ICly whenever possible, and let players sort their problems out. In case you find yourself being a victim of this rule, consider trying and discussing your issues whether ICly or OOCly with whoever is involved
  • This rule only applies to situations admins deem have had a proper IC justification, otherwise the rest of the rules would precede it.
    • Player-facing, this rule effectively does not exist (it can't be used as a justification in ticket or otherwise from the player side), instead being preceded by the rest of our rules. It only applies when mentioned by an admin
  • You can play as a problematic character, however, always consider not just the retaliation from other players, but also the possibility of it incurring a violation of rule 2 if taken too far.
4.
Consent
Violating another character's preferences, commiting erotic acts against a player or enforcing effects/consequences over said act without their consent, utterly violates this rule. Ensure that you’re aware of every person’s OOC preferences when it comes to sexual content before engaging in such content with them. You’re also entitled to voicing your preferences through LOOC during a scene, and the involved person is supposed to comply with them.
  • If you desire to involve yourself in others' ERP, assuming it is in a semi-private place, you are allowed to ask to join them via LOOC, however, if they decline, you MUST leave the area immediately thereafter, and you may NOT act on whatever you saw there.
  • If you are ERPing in a department-specific, public area, and someone from said department asks you to leave, you are expected to do so
  • Before engaging in sexual activities with someone, you must make sure the person is willing to engage in such actions.
  • S.P.L.U.R.T. is an Erotic Roleplay Environment. You WILL See nudity, sexual acts and adult content either visually and/or mechanically. There are some types of content you’ll be exposed to regardless of your kinks or preferences due to the nature of this station. E.g. Hyper characters who walk around nude.
  • For some cases, it is possible to solve an issue either ICly or OOCly with the person at hand. In case someone’s being a detriment for your experience in this server, first try and communicate with them, before contacting admins. Only contact admins if diplomacy fails with whoever’s inconveniencing you.
4.1. Rules about the noncon pref:
  • If your non-con preferences are set to 'Yes', you waive your right to fight back against your would-be non-consensual roleplay partners, as long as they don’t violate the contents of your OOC notes or you speak up in LOOC against what they are doing to you.
  • All non-con actions are considered non-canon to the round when performed if perpetrated by non-antags. You are not to call for help over comms over being non-conned, unless all parties agree to the consequences of such actions, as doing so consistently results in a witch hunt against your roleplay partner. And the CONSEQUENCES and effect on the round of your ERP should only be decided upon AFTER your scene has been completed, and all parties should consent to them.
5.
Standards
There are numerous, various standards that you are expected to follow, and failing to do so violates this rule. The round cannot succeed if those in charge are not held to responsibility, including both Heads of Staff and Regular crew. Therefore, fulfilling your job is important. Failing to follow these standards when playing these roles will likely result in a job ban.
  • Security standards, antag and non-crew standards, command standards, silicon standards, etcetera
  • Exceptional incompetence as a head of staff, or a complete lack of familiarity with space law as a member of security breaks this rule.
  • Disregarding your job consistently for extended periods of time (e.g. ERPing) while you are needed will likely result in a job ban
  • The more you’re required for your job during a round, the more you’re expected to drop any scenes you’re currently handling for the purpose of attending your job
  • You can ERP while having a job in the station, but consider how important that job is during the round, since the more important it is the more you’re expected to tend to it.
  • If your goal is uninterrupted, long-form roleplay on rounds with an important chaos level, please consider the interlink station, infinidorms, or go Assistant.
  • You’re allowed to suck at the game! However, please try and learn the mechanics of it, otherwise if you continue to cause issues for the rest of the crew during rounds due to your inability to fulfill your job, you might end up banned from it.
6.
Safety
You are expected to be an adult in this server and be over the age of 18, and you are expected to act as such. Any content that could be interpreted as violating the law and is harmful towards the server is not allowed to be discussed on the server.

Furthermore, this is an eighteen-plus server and, as such, you will be swiftly removed if you are found to be underage.

  • Anything that violates Discord's terms of service/community guidelines, or Byond's terms of service, violates this rule.
  • ANY underage content, in any way, shape, or form, violates this rule; do not even speak about this topic, as it is not welcome here.
  • Slurs of any variety are not tolerated here either, and severe action will be taken against any sort of discrimination.
  • Bestiality (sexual interactions with IRL animals) is not allowed in this server.
  • Interactions with non-human (feral-esque fantasy or otherwise) characters and mobs are fine as long as the mobs DO NOT resemble an IRL animal, and are distinct enough of such. (E.g. Ian bad, Funclaws ok).
  • Staff may choose to apply an 'age verification' ban to anyone who we fear may be underage. This is non-negotiable and there is no leniency. If you submit falsified, AI-Created or digitally-altered verification methods; you will also be permanently removed; An agevet ban will typically be removed the second the banned individual can prove that they are of appropriate age.

How these rules will be applied

Again, these rules are, effectively, guidelines which outline the sorts of things you shouldn't be doing; for you to receive a warning or punishment, your actions must still fit under one of these six categories, however, the infraction itself does not have to be specifically outlined in these rules. Failure to follow these rulings may result in bans/notes/etc. towards your byond account on our server.

Lastly, interpretation of the rules is up to staff, and staff alone, but will remain consistent between each of the staff in terms of ruling. Ultimately, if you manage to find a niche way to circumvent these rulings in a malicious or rule-lawyering way, it may be up to the discretion of the administration to decide the punishment, if any.

Reporting incidents and appealing your bans/notes/etc.

If you see anything that you feel breaks these rules in game, by all means make an AHELP and report the issue, as this is the main way for us admins to know when our intervention is required. Please provide names, locations and other important information regarding the problem when you make the ticket. 🥺 🙏

If you feel like you have been wrongly disciplined by a staff member please make an AHELP on the discord with the necessary information about your situation and or concerns. You are also free to open ban appeals and or appeal notes.

If you feel like you may wish to escalate your complaint to a management position or higher up. You may request this within the complaint ticket. This applies for staff complaints as well. (Please ensure you have suitable evidence to your claims)
