General guide

This should help you understand how to access, format and correctly design an opposing force (otherwise known as OpFor), and to help guide what you may see selected during extended rounds, chaos rounds but more specifically chaos (OpFor) rounds.

These guidelines are to be used by both players and staff to help curate OpFor's and decide which ones would fit the round.

How to access the OpFor menu

To access the menu, simply go to the ‘OOC’ section within your verbs panel on the right hand side of your screen, look for the verb ‘Opposing Force’, clicking on it will now open the menu and create an OpFor submission that only yourself and the staff team can see, alternatively, you can press ‘ESC’ when in-game and press on the option ‘OPFOR’.

Note: You cannot make an OpFor whilst being a ghost. Making an OpFor whilst in the main menu and then spawning in will delete the OpFor submission. If you want to make an OpFor and you are planning on being something specific, spawn in as an assistant and discuss it with the handling staff member.

What are OpFor chaos rounds meant to be

OpFor rounds are meant to give players some respite from the random chaos that occurs on normal storytellers, whilst still giving them the ability to have random events occur without natural antagonists spawning, this gives the staff more control over what sort of antagonists the station will have to deal with, giving the staff more power during these rounds to control quality and roleplaying.

This should also help make rounds more cohesive with the antagonists being chosen, as staff can encourage more roleplaying for both security and the antagonists themselves with the OpFor submissions, so that the station won’t be dealing with a heretic, blob and multiple traitors all at the same time creating a mess.

What kind of OpFor's are appropriate for what chaos level

Take a moment to review each section when deciding what kind of OpFor you’d like to create. This will help guide what staff are likely to allow during a round, as each chaos level has different expectations and limitations for OpFor submissions.

Extended

OpFor submissions allowed during extended rounds are generally those focused on being friendly or strictly non-destructive in nature. When creating an OpFor submission for this type of storyteller, your objective should not involve attacking people, stealing items, or causing chaos for the crew. In return, you will be granted special protection against "valid-hunting."

Make sure to clearly label your OpFor with “[Friendly]” to avoid any confusion for handling staff regarding your intentions.

Chaos storyteller (low)

In low-chaos rounds, your OpFor should be more subtle, with limited impact on the overall round. Most of the chaos should come from the storyteller, so your objectives should focus on activities like stealing, kidnapping, or assassination.

Avoid designing OpFor submissions that aim to cause widespread destruction or mass murder, including targeting the station or security, who may pursue you. The goal is to create tension without escalating to full-scale conflict.

Chaos storyteller (medium/high)

Similar to low chaos, the storyteller holds control during medium/high-chaos rounds and is responsible for deciding whether round-ending antagonists are allowed. While OpFor submissions can be destructive, the core goal should not be to cause the round to end prematurely. The focus should be on impactful, yet contained, conflict that keeps the round moving forward.

OpFor storyteller (low)

In low-chaos (OpFor) rounds, your role should emphasize storytelling and character-driven interactions over outright destruction or random violence. The focus should be on subtlety and stealth, crafting engaging scenarios that involve other participants.

Low-chaos (OpFor) rounds should prioritize roleplay over gameplay. Your actions should be believable within the universe, driven more by motive than by combat prowess, serving as a catalyst for tension and conflict rather than focusing on killing.

OpFor storyteller (medium/high)

During medium/high-chaos (OpFor) rounds, your main priority remains fostering meaningful roleplay, but with greater freedom for dynamic, impactful actions. You'll have the opportunity to submit OpFor objectives that are more aggressive or dangerous, with the potential to disrupt the round or even bring it to an early end, depending on how the objectives unfold.

Note: Round-ending objectives should only be approved for high-chaos (OpFor) rounds. Medium chaos should strike a balance between narrative-driven conflict and controlled chaos.

Special antagonists

If you're aiming to play a unique antagonist - such as a wizard, nuke operative, revolutionary, or any other rare or restricted antagonist - be prepared for intense scrutiny. These roles are typically not available for natural spawn and require strong justification to be considered.

Such characters will only be considered during high-chaos (OpFor) rounds and must be backed by a compelling reason. Due to the significant impact these antagonists can have on a round, including the potential for a full takeover or even round-ending objectives, your application must be thorough. A well-crafted backstory, clear objectives, and excellent roleplaying skills are essential for consideration.

Making and understanding your OpFor

Backstory

Your character's backstory serves as the foundation for why they are undertaking the actions outlined in your objectives. It helps the handling staff understand your motivations and decision-making. Write it from your character's perspective, though you can include OOC information or explanations in brackets ‘()’ if needed.

This section is the most important, as it shapes how your character will act and behave throughout the round.

Objectives

The objectives you choose will determine what you aim to accomplish as your OpFor. Think carefully about them and ensure they align with the storyteller’s guidelines and in-game rules, as anything outside of these can be declined by handling staff.

Your objectives should logically fit with your backstory and not feel like arbitrary tasks. They need to make sense within the context of your character’s motivations.

Equipment

If you need additional items to carry out your objectives, here's how to select them.

When choosing equipment, provide a clear reason for each item so handling staff can understand why it’s essential for your character. This helps ensure your choices feel purposeful and aligned with your objectives.

Admin Chat

This is the section where you can discuss your OpFor submission with staff. Here, you can refine or adjust your idea to better fit the round.

Note: Keep an eye on this section, as neither you nor the handling staff will receive notifications when someone replies. If it has been a while and no one has responded, send a quick "Update" to alert staff. Just be sure not to spam, as that could result in your OpFor being muted.

Funny buttons

Submit

Think you are all ready for a staff member to look over your OpFor, then just hit this button and a ping will go out putting you in a waiting queue for someone to come along and read your completed OpFor.

Update

Has nobody looked at your OpFor yet? Perhaps staff got side-tracked and forgot to look back at the ‘Admin Chat’ on your OpFor, pressing this will send the staff a ping that will alert us about your OpFor submission again.

Note: Do not abuse this button, it will be a quick way to get muted.

Modify

Did you make a mistake, maybe you forgot to add something, using this button will allow you to change your OpFor once you have submitted it, this will take you out of the queue and un-submit your OpFor until you are ready once more.

Withdraw

Realizing you have other things you need to do, perhaps the current round just doesn’t suit your OpFor idea, it’s all okay, you can press this button to take back your application at any time.

Import

Already made an OpFor or maybe downloaded one from someone else? Use this button to import the .JSON file and it will create the OpFor, then just edit whatever you need to in order to fit the round and it will be all ready to submit.

Export

Want to save your OpFor creation because it’s a good idea or maybe it would suit another round better, then hit this button to download it as a .JSON file and keep it safe within your folders or even share it with others.
